$20.10 - $23.94 an hour
JOB
Overview

The City of Duvall is looking for a Spring/Summer intern for its Finance Department. Duvall’s Finance Department is small, 3.75 FTEs when fully staffed, so everyone does much more than just finance and accounting. It is the perfect environment for an intern to get a well-rounded experience in governmental finance and see how employees at a small city pull together to get things done.

This Finance Intern position pays $20.10 to $23.94 per hour and is budgeted at approximately 440 hours. The hours are flexible with some opportunity for remote work.

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled in a four-year Washington State college or university with a major in Accounting, Business or Finance and be entering junior or senior year in the Fall of 2022.

Intern Activities

The intern will shadow two Accounting Associates to gain experience in cash receipting, accounts receivable, payroll and accounts payable. Other intern projects include:

Biennial Budget –The intern will actively participate in putting together the City’s 2023/2024 biennial budget process and will be an integral part of organizing and designing the final budget document. The City is in the process of implementing the budgeting module of its new financial software, so this will be a great opportunity to see how a budget is built.
Research projects – The City is in the process of updating many of its policies. If time permits, the intern will be asked to research policies of other cities and to determine which practices will best meet the needs of the City. Potential projects include drafting internal service allocation policies, updating the investment policy and updating the reserve policy.
