Benefit Communications Intern

The State of Arizona Department of Administration-Benefit Services Division serves the medical, dental, life, disability and wellness needs of 60,000 State employees and their dependents. We are currently seeking a Benefits Communications intern for 10-15 hours/week. It is an opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate majoring in Marketing Communications or a related field to work with a small, but ambitious, corporate communications team. Our location is on the Capitol Mall at 15th Ave and Adams Sts. The work will be mostly remote, with 1-2 days per week in the office potentially. Time span: Summer/Fall 2022 with possibility of extending into Spring 2023.

Job Duties:

General Duties


  • Assist in the content creation and design development of marketing materials for employee benefits
  • Assist with website content administration and editing/proofreading
  • Post website content and imagery through Drupal, a content management system (CMS).
  • Create event flyers
  • Assist with the creation, editing and distribution of internal emails, news stories, blogs, videos, etc.
  • Support implementation of employee engagement campaigns
  • Help staff company events and internal meetings

Planned Projects

  • Website conversion for employee benefits and wellness sites
  • Employee benefits newsletter content plan and content writing
  • Open enrollment benefits campaign support

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Required Education and Experience

  • Enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree program, majoring in Marketing Communications or a related field - juniors, seniors and master’s level preferred.
  • Impeccable writing skills, grammar and storytelling style (Please include portfolio pieces and weblinks with your application. Coursework is fine.)
  • Comfortable editing complex ideas into simple call-to-action.
  • Comfortable working with online systems in general is a plus and will be a major focus of this internship.
  • Aptitude for designing eye-catching flyers is a plus.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong attention to follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible in work functions and duties with strong teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in Google programs (Docs, Sheets, Slides) is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite products is a plus, but not required.
