Role Description

PPD is currently recruiting for our 2022 Summer Externship Program at our GMP and Bioanalytical Laboratories. The Program will run Monday, July 25th through Friday, July 29th in Middleton, WI and Richmond, VA.

The goal of this program is to give students an educational experience that will expose them to our state-of-the-art industry laboratories, equipment, and technology, to working in a large company, and to our company culture. They will also network with future colleagues! Externs will shadow multiple scientists to gain a true understanding of the daily work and impact of our scientists, as well as what a long-term career looks like at PPD, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Before the close of this program, all externs will have the opportunity to interview for a spot in our Internship Program the following summer (2023).


Qualifications

Education: Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program as a “rising Junior” defined as projected to graduate December 2023 or May 2024

Degree concentrations desired: Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Genetics, or Biotechnology


Expense Coverage

This is an experiential learning opportunity, not a paid program. We will however cover expenses including:

  • Individual hotel rooms for Sunday, July 24th through Friday, July 29th (check out late morning)
  • All daily meals including breakfasts, lunches, and dinners provided
  • Travel stipend of $250 if student is not within reasonable driving distance to the lab (i.e. over 50 miles away)

  • Able to perform successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities
