Outsourced Benefits & Leave Administration Intern
HR Works, Inc. is seeking an Intern to join the team (on-site) in our Outsourced Benefits and Leave Administration Services department in Summer 2022. This is an exciting opportunity to gain detailed knowledge of this critically important aspect of HR, as well as exposure to other areas that can include HR Strategic Services, HR Consulting, HR Compliance, HR Technology and Payroll, Affirmative Action and Talent Acquisition. This is a part-time, paid internship.. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Shadow phone calls with clients and coordinators to understand employee needs, benefits questions and leave requests.
- Document important information from calls and identify questions to review with your supervisor.
- Provide support to other team members as needed including but not limited to, entering information into the leave administration software, creating leave packages, running change reports and completing related action items, preparing leave or COBRA packages to be printed/mailed, scanning returned paperwork.
- Attend team meetings and complete required training, as assigned.
- Accomplish all other duties and tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
LEARNING GOALS
- Understand the steps involved for helping employees through a leave request, creating employee leave packets, understanding what leave(s) they are eligible for, and the legal compliance and considerations involved.
- Understand the importance of benefits packages to companies, common questions around benefit options and the legal compliance and considerations involved.
- Gain experience within an office environment and practice professional communication skills on-site and with remote team members.
- Gain exposure to other departments/HR functions to understand the Human Resources field as a whole.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Junior or Senior, pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business and/or related field OR Second Year Associate's degree student pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business and/or related field.
- At least one year of customer service experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent customer service and follow through skills.
- Proficient computer and technology skills (including Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, etc.)
- Ability to learn and use multiple HRIS systems and other software.
- Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work with multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively both in-person and virtually.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
